How to Build a Better AI Prompt

A useful prompt is specific enough to guide the work and short enough to keep the task clear. Use these three decisions to shape the fields above.

01

Start With One Clear Goal

Name the deliverable, not just the topic. Ask for a launch email, a risk-ranked code review, or a five-step plan. If the request contains several different jobs, split it into smaller prompts.

02

Add Only the Context That Changes the Answer

Include the audience, relevant source material, current situation, and any background the assistant cannot infer. Leave out details that do not affect the decision or output.

03

Define the Output and Boundaries

Specify the format, tone, length, must-have points, and anything to avoid. For factual work, ask the assistant to flag uncertainty and separate evidence from assumptions.

Copy-ready starting points

AI Prompt Examples by Task

Start with a complete example, then replace the goal, context, and constraints with details from your own work.

Writing and Marketing

A focused product launch email with one clear action.

Act as a B2B product marketer. Write a launch email for a browser-based design tool aimed at freelance designers. Explain the main benefit in plain language, include three short proof points, and finish with one CTA. Use a confident, practical tone and keep the email under 220 words.

Research and Learning

A structured summary that keeps evidence and uncertainty visible.

Act as a research assistant. Summarize the source material I provide for a beginner audience. Organize the answer into key findings, supporting evidence, unresolved questions, and a short glossary. Do not invent missing facts; label any inference clearly.

Coding and Analysis

A code review that prioritizes behavioral risk over style comments.

Act as a senior software engineer. Review the code I provide for bugs, security risks, and behavioral regressions. List findings from highest to lowest severity, cite the relevant function or line, explain the user impact, and suggest the smallest reliable fix. Mention missing tests separately.

Planning and Operations

An action plan with owners, dependencies, and completion checks.

Act as an operations lead. Turn the project goal and constraints I provide into a four-week action plan. Use a table with week, owner, task, dependency, and definition of done. Flag assumptions before the table and end with the three decisions that need confirmation first.

Fix the missing decision

Turn Vague Requests into Clear Instructions

When an AI response feels generic, find the missing decision instead of adding more words everywhere.

Replace Broad Verbs With a Deliverable

Name the artifact and its purpose so the result has a clear finish line.

Vague

Help me with our product launch.

Clearer

Create a launch checklist with owners, deadlines, dependencies, and a definition of done for each task.

Give the Model Something Concrete to Work With

Provide the audience, source material, draft, data, or constraints that should shape the answer.

Vague

Write a better homepage.

Clearer

Rewrite this homepage intro for freelance designers who need faster client approvals. Keep the value proposition under 35 words.

Iterate on One Weak Point at a Time

Keep the parts that worked and revise the single variable causing the biggest problem.

Vague

Start over and make everything better.

Clearer

Keep the structure, but make the examples specific to a two-person SaaS team and remove repeated claims.

Model-aware, not model-dependent

Use Your Prompt Across AI Assistants

The generated result is plain text, so you can try it in common AI assistants. Model behavior changes over time, and the same prompt may need small adjustments in each product.

ChatGPT: Keep the Task and Output Contract Explicit

Put the deliverable, context, and required format in direct language. For complex work, use follow-up prompts rather than forcing every step into one request.

Claude: Organize Long Context Before the Request

Separate source material from instructions and make the final task easy to find. Ask for explicit handling of missing or conflicting information.

Gemini and Other Assistants: Test the Same Structure, Then Adapt

Start with the same goal, context, and output contract. Review the first response, then adjust the detail level or format instead of assuming identical behavior across models.

Four checks, then paste

Review Before You Paste

A quick review catches unclear instructions and sensitive data before the prompt leaves this page.

1

Can Someone Else Understand the Goal?

The task, audience, and definition of done should be clear without guessing what you meant.

2

Is the Requested Output Easy to Check?

Name the format, length, required sections, and success criteria you will use to review the answer.

3

Should Facts or Assumptions Be Flagged?

For research and high-stakes work, request sources, uncertainty labels, and qualified human review where appropriate.

4

Did You Remove Sensitive Information?

Remove passwords, API keys, personal data, and confidential material before pasting the prompt into any third-party service.

AI Prompt Generator FAQ

What the builder does, where your prompt goes, and what to review before using it elsewhere.

What is an AI prompt generator?

An AI prompt generator turns details such as your goal, context, audience, tone, format, and constraints into a structured prompt you can copy into an AI assistant. This page builds the prompt text; it does not complete the task described in the prompt.

Is this AI prompt generator free?

Yes. You can build, copy, and download prompts on this page without creating an account.

Does this tool call an AI model?

No. It uses a deterministic template in your browser to assemble the fields you provide. It does not call a model API or generate the final answer to your task.

Can I use the generated prompt in ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini?

Yes. The result is plain text that you can paste into assistants that accept text prompts. Different models and product versions may interpret the same instructions differently, so review the first response and adapt the prompt when needed.

What should a good AI prompt include?

Start with one clear goal, add only relevant context, identify the audience, define the output format, and state important constraints. For complex work, split the request into smaller prompts and refine one weak point at a time.

Is it safe to include confidential information in a prompt?

Do not include passwords, API keys, personal data, or confidential material. This page builds the prompt locally, but pasting it into a third-party AI assistant is a separate data-handling step governed by that service's current policies.
